Polymer Photogravure is an innovative process that uses polymer & steel backed plates with a light sensitive coating to produce remarkably rich tonal and linear intaglio prints, similar to the quality achieved in 19th century photogravure prints. During this two-day course you will be introduced to photographic plate making and printing using this flexible intaglio printmaking method. This technique is acid free, using ultraviolet light and water to develop the plates. It requires participants to have suitable photographic imagery prior to the course to develop ideas. Although the course will be of interest to all artists, it is particularly suitable for those working with photographic and digital imaging that wish to realise high quality original prints.

Over the weekend we will be working with two images/plates, and these will be approximately A5.

It‘s vitally important that you email the images that you wish to work with to me well before the course and absolutely by Wednesday 9th September. DO NOT leave this to the last minute, as the images will need to be processed by the tutor in advance and then printed onto film before the class.

You can send a number of images (4-5 max), 1 megabyte (mb), or above, and please number them in preference. Files that are too low a resolution cannot be used. They can be black and white, or in colour, (if necessary the tutor will then change them into black and white images for the course). 2 will be chosen for the course at the tutor's discretion.

Images can be from a digital camera, mobile phone etc, and should be of a good resolution. They can be formatted as Tiff’s or Jpeg’s. If sending from a mobile phone make sure you are sending them at actual size, as some email apps tend to downsize images by default.

Images should also exhibit a good range of tones, and contrast. If you are unsure of which images to use, just Google ‘polymer photogravure’ and you should get some idea. You will be provided with a hand-out of the process, but please bring a notebook so that you can jot down your own notes as and when.

Terms and Conditions:
Bookings are only confirmed on receipt of the full cost of the course. If full payment is not made, you will not be allowed to start the course. We reserve the right to cancel the course at a weeks notice if there are less than 4 participants booked.

Please note

We will not be liable for any childcare, travel or accommodation fees lost due to cancellation by us.
You will need to bring your own lunch as there are no facilities nearby. Please bring an apron, some basic kit like pencils, pens, your tutor should get in touch before the start of your course to let you know if there is anything specific you need to bring.

Cancellation Policy:
The sum of £50, will be lost If you cancel at short notice (less than 2 weeks before the course start). If your place cannot be filled, no monies will be returned.
