Winter Woodcut Weekend workshop

Step into the warmth of the studio for a weekend of woodcut printmaking as we approach mid-winter. Together we’ll carve, ink, and print using traditional techniques, safe and non-toxic materials, and the beautifully precise Japanese method of kento registration.

What you’ll experience:

Hands-on guidance in designing, carving, and printing your own woodblock.

Access to Philippa’s library of books about different woodcut artists and approaches to the medium.

A chance to print a small edition using both the handheld Japanese bamboo leaf Baren and the Hopkinson Platen press to achieve a variety of finished results.

Exploration of safe, eco-friendly inks and tools

Japanese floating kento registration for multi-colour alignment

Small-group teaching for plenty of one-to-one support

A warm, creative space to make art in the heart of winter

No experience is needed—just curiosity and a love of making. Whether you’re completely new to print or looking to refresh your practice, you’ll find a welcoming space to learn, experiment, and share ideas.

We limit our course numbers to 6 - in order for you to get the most from our tutors and the facilities.

Terms and Conditions:

Bookings are only confirmed on receipt of the full cost of the course. We reserve the right to cancel the course at a weeks notice if there are less than 4 participants booked.

Cancellation Policy:

The sum of £50, will be lost If you cancel at short notice (less than 2 weeks before the course start). If your place cannot be filled, no monies will be returned.
