Summer School - Flowers to Floral Workshop with Anne Haworth & Rachele Dickie NEW!

Flowers to Florals - drawing from nature and printing on fabric using pigments and natural dyes

We are really excited to offer 4 days of sketching, developing floral designs, experimenting with eco printing with leaves and flowers, printing with pigments and natural dyes.

Over the course of the 4 days you will develop floral drawings into textile designs, create your own screens and use them to print on fabric. You will try out ideas using pigment and then explore using natural dyes creating thickened dye past that you will use to print with as well as ecoprint backgrounds. You will come away with your own unique pieces of fabric that can be used to make something stitched. Textile art, fabric for quilting and stitching, bags and cushions.

On Day 1 Textile designs. You will work with Anne in the studio sketching flowers, developing drawings into floral designs and making your on photo emulsion screens…

On Day 2 Rachele will guide you through ecoprinting your own fabrics - the pigment from leaves transfers onto fabric using mordants and steam. These pieces can be used as backgrounds to screenprint on later in the course. You will need to bring along some leaves to use.

On Day 3 You will have a day with Anne to print your floral designs on fabric, adding layers of colour, paper stencil details and the chance to experiment.

On Day 4 Rachele will introduce you to natural dyes and make a screenprinting paste with natural dyes where you can use your screens working with the designs you produced on day 3 as well as well as having the opportunity to increase the complexity of your designs and combine the different processes you have learnt. Pieces will need to be steam fixed to make them permanent.
White cotton for printing will be provided but please bring along a variety of pieces of natural fabric such as cotton, muslin, linen and silk for the eco printing.

Please bring along a variety of pieces of natural fabric such as cotton, muslin, linen and silk to print on to.
