Screen Printing with Natural Dyes Weekend Workshop with Rachele Dickie NEW!

Screen printing with Natural Dyes

Over the course of the weekend you will learn how to use natural dyes to dye fabric, discovering how the colour can be affected through the use of mordants and modifiers and explore how natural dyes can be made into a paste for screenprinting.

We will experiment with small pieces of fabric initially, testing different combinations to create base colours. Then following on from dyeing some larger pieces of fabric we will look at making a thickened dye paste for screenprinting. Samples can be printed and steam fixed.

If time allows you can begin working on a more considered piece of fabric or continue to make samples. You may wish to have a constructed textile item in mind that you are dyeing fabric for such as a cushion or table runner.

We will cover cutting simple stencils for screenprinting with, but the tutor will have some designs available to use or you may wish to bring your own screens for printing with.

Please bring along a variety of pieces of natural fabric such as cotton, muslin, linen and silk to print on to.

Rachele Dickie is a member of GPC and an experienced textile artist inspired by nature. Having completed a textiles HND as a mature student a number of years ago, Rachele has gone on to develop her textile surface design skill base and experiments with different ways of printing on fabric creating art pieces. Much of her work is inspired by local walks and makes use of plants through eco printing, natural dye and monoprinting with plants.
