Stone Lithography Weekend Workshop

Lithography is a magical method of printmaking that relies on a chemical balancing act of grease and water on the sensitive surface of a special kind of limestone. Invented in Germany in 1798, it developed into a major form of industrial printing as well as attracting renowned artists such as Daumier, Toulouse-Lautrec, Picasso, Matisse, Chagall, Rauschenberg and Hockney.

Join Simon Burder, artist lithographer and experienced teacher from Oaks Editions Lithography Studio, to explore this versatile medium, capable of reproducing diverse imagery, from delicate crayon to splashy washes, from collaged textures to expressive brushwork. In two days you will learn how to prepare a stone, draw and process an image, and print a small edition.

Note extended hours 10-5pm each day.

Basic materials, tools, ink and paper will be provided, but it is a good idea to bring your own pencils, pens, rubbers etc. Additional materials may be available to buy from the tutor or the art shop next door.

Your will need to bring your own lunch.

The sum of £50, will be lost If you cancel at short notice (less than 2 weeks before the course start). If your place cannot be filled, no monies will be returned. NEW COVID-19 Precautions

Presses and shared equipment (keeping this to a minimum) are wiped after use with antibacterial cleaner.
There will be separate inking up spaces for students.
Tutors will demonstrate technique in such a way to ensuring safe social distancing.
Extractor fans will be switched on during courses.
Students on courses run in the downstairs studio will have access to both the upstairs and downstairs toilets.
Students will need to bring all refreshments with them.
