Plate Lithography for beginners & improvers with Cathy Mills - 3 Days
Plate Lithography for beginners & improvers
Lithography is a wonderful way to explore mark making. Of all the print processes it allows for variety and spontaneity in drawing. Drawing directly onto the sensitive surface of either a plate or a stone, the image is stabilised with a mild acid and is then rolled up with printing ink and printed. This can be in colour or black.
The process is based on grease and water not mixing and whilst printing, the stone is always kept damp and the drawing and printing inks are greasy.
This course gives a comprehensive introduction to lithography and is suitable for people without previous experience or for those wishing to refresh their skills. You will draw up, etch and print one image and Cathy will demonstrate other ways to transfer images onto the plate or stone that can be inspiration for future prints. It is a rewarding experience and ideal for those who love drawing and painting.
Printing paper and all materials will be supplied but if students wish to buy specialist paper to experiment with, there is wide range available at Pegasus Art Shop, next door.
